Region

The Bohemian Forest is part of the oldest mountains in Central Europe and is located on the transcontinental divide. Put simply, this is the historical and geological background, which is the reason why the Bohemian trees are particularly green, due to the air being particularly pure and the water particularly clean.

Right at the top on the ridge of the Bohemian Forest, just a few centimetres separates the long route of the raindrops - whether the droplet will at some point end up in Brunsbüttel in the North Sea, or eventually reach the Black Sea via the Danube Delta. The Bohemian Forest is the oldest mountain range in Central Europe and is a part of the transcontinental water divide.
Formed well over 300 million years ago, it has lost nearly two thirds of its original height over this time due to weather conditions, and because of this has been gifted with the enchanting rolling landscape of the Mü¼hlviertel.

The geological history of the summits are particularly impressive: 250 million years ago gneiss rock was forced up by the young granite ledges, and they now soar high above the forest - freed from the cumbersome earth and small stones by the wind and weather.
It is perhaps this power of change in nature that has lead to people also developing special powers here: this region has been popular with healers and seers in recent centuries. There are many mystical locations here, and many more stories about how they came in to being.

So leave your mobile phone, share prices and politics at home - even today the forest still has magical powers to bring us to reflection. And if it starts to rain, think about another little raindrop, that decides in which direction it will swim.
